APRA Events

To keep you up to date with what’s happening at APRA and in the music industry generally, we hold a number of regular events and activities for members across the country. These events also give you the chance to expand your networks by getting to know other composers and songwriters in your area.

Following is a list of our regular events. To find out what’s coming up in your area, check our Membership Calendar of Events

connect@apra

If you have earned your first APRA royalties in the preceding distribution, connect@apra gives you a chance to talk to an APRA Writers Services representative and meet other new members in an informal atmosphere. Find out about more about how APRA can help your songwriting career, get to know other composers and ask questions at connect@apra. Meetings are held annually in the Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide offices.

Roadshow

Roadshow is a regular event for all members, held each year in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. It gives you the opportunity to hear about APRA’s activities, including our financial performance, distribution, technology and legal issues. Each year, we also cover a different theme (usually determined from member surveys), with a panel of industry experts ready to share their knowledge on topics such as recording and publishing contracts, new technologies and the radio and television industry.

Songwriter Speaks

At Songwriter speaks, you can share in the experiences, knowledge and techniques of a range of pre-eminent composers. Past speakers such as Jimmy Webb, Greg Macainsh, Eric McCusker and Richard Gottehrer have provided invaluable insights into the art of songwriting for developing composers. In 2001 we videotaped the Neil Murray session, making this available to members on our website. The success of this initiative has made it one we would like to continue.

APRA Awards

The APRA Music Awards are for those composers and songwriters who have achieved the highest performances of their work and excellence in their craft over the previous year.

Established in 1982, the Awards are held in May, with some awards voted for by members and others awarded on the basis of APRA’s analysis of performance data.

To find out more about the APRA Awards as well as our awards for classical music and screen composers, go to APRA Awards

Workshops

APRA also conducts a range of workshops and seminars across the country. Each year we travel to regional centres such as Newcastle, Wollongong, Geelong and Byron Bay, giving you the opportunity to have a one on one meeting with one of our representatives. This is an ideal chance for you to pick our brains on anything and everything to do with APRA.

In addition to this we conduct a range of seminars throughout the year. These are advertised in advance on our website. The aim is to keep you up to date with APRA’s activities and to pass on current information about the music industry, focussing on issues that affect your career. You can ask your APRA representative any questions you might have, and hear from a panel of industry experts.
